>Its about how you mentally treat failure if it occurs which again is different but also a slippery slope.
Somewhat. I don't encourage spilling your seed - after all, it wouldn't be retention if it'd be about freely doing it. But I find treating it when one does - and sometimes there are situations when doing so comes with value - as some sort of great failing and beating yourself over it is unwise.

If you have no good reason to - you shouldn't ejaculate and if you feel strong need to despite knowing you don't have good reason to - it's something to address and work with, rather than put a lid on and let fester. Nor is it a great failure if you have a good reason to indulge - as long as you don't lie to yourself about it, make that decision consciously and take what you learn from it to further your practice, you'll benefit in the end.

The energy and vitality associated with lust, seed etc is just a resource. Wasting it will set you back, but consciously deciding when to spend it and on what is using it though, the same way you enrich yourself not only spending nutrients of your body to keep it active when performing noble deeds, but also when doing worthwhile, pleasant things for yourself.

Thus, as I mention, moderation and balance is better than dogmatic, inflexible, militant approach of too much of /srg/ (which is also why anons here and elsewhere, ones casual or actual pursuants of various spiritual traditions - see /srg/ as cultish/"elitist circlejerks").
