My problem is pretending the passion that produced his fantastic early work was there when he was so tapped out that he forgot to even finish drawing the feet before handing his work in, nevermind the rest of the sprite.
He then went on to defend his work as if there was nothing wrong after leaving when it was getting called out, I'd have been more sympathetic if he'd said "yeah, I was burnt out and not delivering my best, work was rough" or something - but this shit is just indefensible.

He also made this. Even ignoring the garbage washed out colours and weird collarbone, he didn't even bother drawing a proper foot and the chibi devs had to finish the design off.
You can't ride on your launch designs forever when the rest of the artists are consistently good.
If mx2j hanging around resulted in more garbage like this or gKaede then he's better off gone. Simple as.
