Sure, you can't conceal them, but that doesn't mean they're not practical. If you had to open carry a pistol as a cop or security guard, and funds/rules weren't an issue, why wouldn't you want a big red dot, a compensator and a flared magwell? There are even tactical goober builds like the Roland Special that are approaching race gun features.

Firearms are inherrently about using technology for enhanced capability, you can definitely minmax too much in a specific direction, but features making it easier just means you can apsire to be even faster/more accurate.
