I feel like this show tries to get it's payoff way too often and way too quickly. Like it doesn't give enough time for the weird and absurd stuff to really set up and develop before it immediately starts going all 4th wall trauma dumping abloo bloo I'm sad type of stuff.
So often times when the characters do stop and reflect on things, which are great scenes, it doesn't really feel as earned as it should. imo if you had, say, 12 episodes, the first three should be absurdities, 4-6 is where the cracks start showing, 7-9 is when it comes apart and all the serious stuff gets out, then 10-12 is when you have the climax and resolutions. Now it just feels like Cane shows up, immediately has existential dread, everyone goes into the silly atmosphere for a few minutes then starts moping and talking about their feelings for an hour.
