He’s literally a cop AND a Sheriff’s Deputy irl. I mean, he’s a volunteer, but at least here in California, volunteer police officers are fully sworn peace officers. In fact there’s secret little loophole in California to becoming a cop (with good pay). You first get a job as a 3rd shift probation officer working at a juvenile hall (you only need a HS Diploma to work nights) which classifies you as a sworn peace officer of the state (you can carry a gun off duty) and no 10 day waiting period or background checks to buy guns; you can buy a gun like you’re buying chewing gum, and you’re except from the ammo tax—you can carry inside federal buildings too, which is something you can’t do with a CCW.
…then you volunteer to be a reserve officer for LAPD or Highway Patrol (LAPD is easier and you just go to sport’s games for free in your alpha uniform)
And THEN you apply for a job at a small local police department that has good pay and pensions in a really good neighborhood. That’s what I did from 2006-2016, having worked 3 years in a small city that reminded me of the fictional town in 7th Heaven. Sooo much pussy. Like I got tired of it, if you can believe that. I sell real estate now. Sorry for the long post. Just saying, it’s not that hard to become a cop.
