It could be Fuji's schizo writing but I got the sense that Fire Devil wasn't telling the whole story.
Fakesaw was supposed to be a Death pawn yet it attacked Death's "precious pawn" (which Falling refused to fight until they forced her to).
Throughout the confrontation, Fakesaw talked more like Fire Devil, not like the Fakesaw we saw fight Fami, who seemed somewhat unsure of himself and asked Fire for encouragement.
I got the feeling that Fire Devil took over Fakesaw's pawn body and attacked Denji, possibly to put Fakesaw out of his misery and to introduce itself to Denji after observing him.
