As a windfag, this is what would actually happen
>New character wants to kill Eggman
>Sonic doesn't care, goes off on an adventure
>We see the new character get effortlessly beaten by Eggman because they aren't Sonic
>the new character gets beaten repeatedly by Eggman until Sonic at one point rescues them
>Sonic and the new character attack Eggman together this time and win
>Eggman is defeated but not for realsies and the new character's ego is hurt
>start back at the beginning but the character now has a grudge against Sonic for being stronger
