Any city worth living in is going to have a skid row. That's just part and parcel of living in a city that's big, vibrant, free, and dynamic. Some people want the radical freedom to live like that, and it's good that they get their own space, too.

Nobody is forcing you to live or visit there. Cities and countries that don't have "edgy" areas like this are either cultural wastelands or repressive authoritarian nightmares.

I once had an Afromerican gentleman refer to me as "H.N.I.C." Suspecting that he was trying to slyly insult me, I asked him what that meant. He told me it means "Head Nigga in Charge".
I asked him to call me by my newfemname instead. Still, I internally felt SO euphoric that he gave me a title that was both non gender-specific and saw me as an ally :)
