I'll try and explain this as simple as possible so you can understand it:
Imagine the gacha screen as a giant machine full of 80 ping pong balls. Within those 80 ping pong balls, there is one gold ping pong ball that represents the XXL unit. That gold ping pong ball is guaranteed to appear after 80 pulls (although it usually shows up sooner), but it is not guaranteed to be the featured character, because the odds are set at 50/50 (in this scenario, you either get Wang or you don't.) When you summon for characters, you slowly increase your odds to draw the golden ping pong ball from your bells. When you receive the golden ping pong ball and open it for the XXL unit, your current mark ends and resets, no matter if you were halfway until an XXL guarantee at 80 pulls or you got it in your first 10 pull. Once you check the XXL you received, if it is not the featured character, the next one will be guaranteed to be the limited unit (Wang) with the pity resetting to 80 pulls.

Pull XXL, not Wang -> next XXL you pull is guaranteed to be Wang
Pull XXL, is Wang -> next XXL is 50/50 odds to be one of the Standards like usual
All you really need to understand is the guy hovering on the gold bell banner will either show up or he won't, and if he doesn't show up, the next time you get a gold pull, he is guaranteed to be there. You don't need exactly 80 pulls, it's just a benchmark in case you somehow DO break the microscopic odds.
