Speaking of Kaiji, what was up with that Mario Rescue Arc? It's the only time in Kaiji that I felt the writing was weak. There was so much Deus Ex Machina only for Mario to dress up in drag as a disguise like Kaiji did 50 chapters prior.

That escape plan was needlessly convoluted and risky. Mario should've dressed up in drag the first time he went into the bathroom instead of sneaking into a restaurant where he could've been caught. Kaiji and Chang could've called in a bomb threat on the department store to stage a panic.

Why did there have to be an emergency exit to the department store that Endou overlooked? If Mario had just camped in the bathroom for 8 hours then Teiai would've eventually found the hidden exit and assumed Mario escaped through there.
