Compulsory education was intended not to uplift individuals but to condition them to be better citizens. It suppresses individual initiative, kills critical thought, and attempts to force conformity. Pic very much related. It may have originally been instituted for the cultivation of young minds, but just look at how they operate today and you'll see how much less value they have after centuries of tweaking the system to cultivate better worker drones. There are so many ways schools suppress the pupils but maybe the most apparent is their policy on fighting or bullying: Instead of being encouraged to defend themselves, young boys are taught only to run to authority figures - who then punish both the accused and the victim - while not actually doing anything to stop the kid from being picked on in the future.
