They don't. They have gotten really good about it lately. It's just HK and Silksong that is terrible at it.

Prince of Persia Lost Crown flat out allowed you to take screenshots and place them on the map. They were a limited resource you had to find or buy, but being able to place a screenshot so you know wtf you need or want to remember about the area is very convenient.
