Precisely. It did not seem suicide to your ancestors (even to your parents and hell, to your youngersleves) because you believed that all peoples were equal. You thought you could bring in ten million indians and that the environment would make them canadians, as if there is something magic in the water that alters their entire cultural history and genetics so to make them like redblooded british colonists of the north.
Please realize that all of this began with philosophy, a simple idea stemming from the enlightenment and more earlier to christianity postulating the equality of man.
Now, in retrospect, it looks absolutely idiotic. But only twenty years ago, the world was optimistic ahead of diversity with the exception of a few usual suspects who lived in trailers and dealt with diversity more closely.
It is so obvious, but the Enlightenment was the undoing of the West. Expect this humanist mistake of a civilization to backfire and apocalyptically revert itself.
There will be change, even if the Amish will be the last ones standing to witness it.
