Most straight men don't care for male characters much because it's a game about collective attractive barbie dolls and we're the main target demographic hence why these games have much fewer of them. You can't just lump every man who points this out to you as one schizo just because we aren't all over every official twitter post like you being loud cunts whenever we aren't getting what we want.
When the game first released it was the only one of its kind(high budget 3D) so they could be more balanced with their appeal as they had a monopoly. The release of other games with higher budgets over the years has created far more competition for that core demographic of straight men and thus these games naturally have gone heavier into female character appeal to be competitive.
These are just natural market forces taking place here.
