Centrão's and some of the right's power base is the large landowner families, some of which date back from the time of the Empire. They have no reason, other than ideological preference, to pick the US over China, which is willing to buy as much soi, coffe and meat as they can send. But many of them like to think themselves American, so who knows how they'll act.
