3. A scramble for resources, supply chains, and choke points based in the Western Hemisphere. This includes things like the Panama Canal, Venezuela's oil, Greenland's REE, and Canada's Arctic coast. This doesn't necessarily mean ownership, but friendly and reliable partners are a must.

All of this is to help firm up America's grip on the Western Hemisphere, so it doesn't have to worry about issues in its backyard. This allows future American leaders to focus their attention on issues elsewhere like the Western Pacific, which will become a new battleground between America and China for the rest of the century.
