Yeah, that's why its retarded what they actually did. Furina has always been popular but 4.2 was basically the point where the game never recovered. They wanted to shill to women so they made Neuvillette a special snowflake (to the point he's the one that speaks to Forcelor, not the Traveler or Furina themselves). Even the writers were trying to shit on Furina with how much of an ass Paimon is to her in the story quest.
Its not a Furina vs Mavuika thing. It's that they fucked up Furina's story to shill another character and they had to massively course correct the next patch. You can see this in how they handled Mavuika
>Furina's backstory is told at the end of Act 5, after most people would have rolled for her
>Mavuika's story is given at the end of Act 2, several patches before she even comes out
>The story revolved around Neuvillette after Act 1. Furina is barely in the story until Act 5 and probably has less lines than Nahida, the character who was locked up for 90% of the quest
>Mavuika is very obviously the main character and has the most screen time
>Teaser trailer only has Furina in for 10 seconds
>Mavuika is half of the trailer
They didn't take any risk with Mavuika because they didn't want to alienate more people. The end result is they played her too safe. Its clear Mihoyo realized they fucked up because of what they started to do starting in 5.0. The entire 5.0 broadcast was saying they fucked up and the game would be so much better. You even had Da Wei crying on stage. Thats how bad things have gotten. Then we have Natlan, the "Land of Dragons" relegating them to Pokemon and pushing the stories about them into side quest and the fact Genshin barely adds any male 5 stars anymore to the point of killing off a male Fatui. Natlan was Mihoyo trying to fix their fuck ups but its probably too late as the game is 5 years old now
