sounds like a classic case of skill issue.
i always get a 5 star once a month from it (haven't gotten a 6 start yet tho)
but yeah they're just there to waste your event currency on if you have nothing else to buy.
kinda wish PM let you keep grinding points after you clear the shop and then you're able to exchange 50 points for 1 random EGO shard box
