I think he wanted to hang out with Starlight and be useful since he sends everyone else away to give Starlight an excuse to ask him for help since the silly noodle is too embarrassed to outright ask. He just doesn't know how to express feelings like a normal person as usual.

It does seem that way, but I think some of that was according to her plan (pic related). Discord is like a big autistic special needs kid so she basically just put on the kids gloves for him. She figured out how to de-escalate the situation by taking the entire blame mostly for Discord's sake to make him feel better and perhaps a part of her feels guilty for not realizing Discord's motives sooner (and she tends to blame herself for things as opposed to blaming others so it's not unusual). That's my cope.
