On that topic, no matter how much people try to make excuses for the actions of Elma's father, it doesn't make it not retarded. Instead of having a silly and choleric "crash out" and throwing Elma from the house on the spot, he should have let him prove himself first like he ended up doing later on anyway by having Elma fight against the sword saint girl (forgot her name), but by then it was already way too late and their bridge was essentially burned and due to the father's pride and Elma's intent to grind non-stop since he already got the taste of it, there was no way to end it any other way. But the father probably came out the worse out of it. Since everything he did since Elma becoming a Heavy Knight has been soundly and without any room for doubt refuted, yet due to his position he couldn't walk back anything he did. But it really only makes his "crash out" seem even more retarded than before in retrospect, because why would a person like the father is being portrayed in more redeeming ways really mess up so badly?
With Elma you could at least make the excuse that he was still confused due to his returning memories, but the father acting like he did only makes less sense the more we learn about him.
