IRL actual Japanese men. They are weak-kneed, autistic beta male herbivores terrified of bodily intimacy. Hiraga Saito in ZnT (almost 20 years ago at this point) was maybe the most recent example of an MC in a harem/romcom who had frequent moments where he would be all, "Okay, I guess today I will try being a chad" though he never went all the way.
