>Sanctions, drones, Nord Stream - how the war collapsed Russia’s oil and gas revenues.
! According to experts, in just over two weeks drones knocked out at least 10% of refining capacity, already causing a fuel crisis. Some say the number is up to 17%.
And each such strike reduces revenues to the budget, thereby weakening the Kremlin’s ability to finance the war.
▪ Explosions on Nord Streams.
But perhaps the most painful blow to the Kremlin’s pocket - and its ability to finance the war - came in September 2022.
At the time of the explosions, the pipelines were not operating: supplies through Nord Stream 1 had been halted in attempts to "freeze Europe", and Nord Stream 2 had never gone online after Germany canceled the certification process.
The official figure for Russia’s losses from the pipeline’s destruction has not been disclosed.
In March 2024, the Nord Stream operating company filed a lawsuit against insurers, demanding about €400 million after they refused to cover damages from the explosions.
The lawsuit stated that the “preliminary and indicative estimate” for water removal from the pipelines, their stabilization, repairs, and replacement of lost gas amounted to €1.2-1.35 billion.
Investments in construction - nearly €17 billion - can also be written off as losses.
But most importantly, Gazprom lost the ability to provide a third of all its potential exports. And that meant tens of billions of dollars less for the war, bombs, missiles, military production, and the killing of Ukrainians.
