When we speak of the cross-cutting power of Freemasonry, it's for a reason. In the Vatican, some have already noted, deliberately, a shared and particular sentiment between Francis, another pontiff suspected of being a Freemason, and his fraternal predecessor, John. They have also taken note of the use of the word "fraternity," which has a flavor reminiscent of the French Revolution, instead of the more evangelical and common "brotherhood." It is worth emphasizing, therefore, that Freemasons from around the world are currently looking to the new era of Pope Bergoglio with the great hope that the excommunication will finally be lifted.
