It's just as easy to see Umiri as extremely valuing Taki as her only friend instead of anything romantic from Umiri's side. I don't actually think she's emotionally mature enough to have a half-decent conceptualization of romance. But they look good together, and friendships are pretty much equivalent to "they're fucking" in fandom.
