I know the context of this game is a literal war, but there is something strange about giving the Nazis a cat. That was a deliberate choice some game designer decided to make. It would be like if you were playing some sci-fi shooter combating cyborgs, but then when you enter the cyborg lair it's revealed that they like cats the same way any human would. It's a strange blend of humanizing and dehumanizing that doesn't seem accidental. Maybe blending these two things is just another way to get the plebs comfortable with the idea of killing people they demonstrably share some qualities with, like having a pet cat.
