My grandmother's brother, now a very old 70+ or 80 years old guy, super cheapskate. He once had a grocery store when he was young. My dad worked for him when he was a teenager.
The guy would catch a fucking heart attack if he saw anything being taken from the freezers or the shelves. His own dad once came into his store, took an ice cream popsicle, and he, his own fucking son, told him to put it back.
My dad was allowed an item once in a while, but only because he worked for him for free.
The guy sold his business eventually, offering it for an insane amount of money, seemingly unafraid, and he got a very large above-average sum of money for it, when it wasn't worth that much.
My dad to this day, doesn't like how hard-headedly cheap this guy is. But my dad told me there's one advice he imparted to him, that stuck with him his entire life:
"What's yours is yours"
And what he meant by that is that if you have it - Its like you always had it. You can act like it was obvious that you'll get it. Hell you can even negotiate against it, even if it looks like you're going to lose it. (if you want a better deal), because what's yours is yours. Its predetermined.
In case you're wondering, yes my family is all from Israel and Jewish, I no longer live there, but the lesson lives on in my head. What's yours is yours.
