I majored in History. I would get a seminar to write, the standard was 15 cards (1 card = 1800 symbols) and 10+ sources. I'd usually start by reading Wikipedia and watching video essays, then I'd pirate articles from Library of Genesis. I'd spend some time reading, deciding to keep what I like and discard what I don't. I'd write something and reach a conclusion that's different from what I'd expect. Finally, I'd rewrite the goal of my research to match my results... Oh, and I had to spend hours on end making the citations fit the Chicago Manual of Style standard. History is all about nice citations and footnotes. Anglos usually cannot into citations at all.
This is what I was actually doing. Some 80% of the research process was just me thinking about the subject for days on end.
It was the greatest time of my life.
