I haven't read this full exchange yet, but to complete my earlier thought here's Pic related: St. Gregory the Theologian's description of his relationship with St. Basil the Great in his Funerary Oration on the latter (Oration 43)—these are two of the three "Cappadocians" who formulated the language to express the Trinity in the Niceno-Constanopolitan Creed.

> taken from J. Børtnes, “Eros Transformed: Same-Sex Love and Divine Desire. Reflections on the Erotic Vocabulary in St. Gregory of Nazianzus’s Speech on St. Basil the Great,” in Greek Biography andPanegyric, ed. Hägg and Rousseau, 180–93.

There's also a very thread-relevant quote about thundering across the plains like Homer's horse toward his mate, but I'm phoneposting and only have what I keep in my gallery at all times.
