I think it can be salvaged by doing like what I did, basically swamp it in a lot of mystery and folktales rather than it actually being true, or at least exaggerated a lot

So for example you can have these isolated amazon women being more mythical than reality, like in dem dere hills beyond lays a land full of the most beautiful but violent women you ever did see, but they plundered that land to sustain themselves after killing their husbands and the few who live there love under their constant tyranny and the smell of death (hundreds of amazons farting and shitting for ages) plaguing the lands

If you want to compensate with this you can do something like Blazing Saddles or Harold and Kumar did, basically have one scene of gross out to compensate everything being normal, so having our adventurers have to deal with these amazons casually ripping ass more foul than any monster around a campfire or in their sleep or have them take a cheeky peek at some nice amazonian ass....just before they begin taking a wicked shit and get really into a raunchy shitting contest
