>The meeting in Alaska will be historic.

After Putin's visit to Alaska, he will head to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting in Tianjin on August 31 - September 1. That will be followed by his attendance of the parade in Beijing on September 3, for the 80th anniversary of victory over Japan.

Russia and China share a common goal: to strip the United States, once and for all, of its status as the global leader. This is the mission with which Putin goes to Alaska, and the mission he will carry on into Asia afterwards. Putin will propose an arrangement to divide the world into three spheres of influence. And here, President Trump should consider how he will deter Russia and China in the future from grabbing even more.

In reality, if the EU is ignored, this whole game will be lost. The United States will not be able to out-compete China, for example in the rare-earth materials sector, without allies. And a strong EU is a historic, reliable, and powerful partner for the United States.

The EU, in turn, must take real and tough actions against Russia, which is a genuine threat: stop tankers from Russia’s "shadow" fleet on the "black" lists and use the frozen assets of Russia’s Central Bank to strengthen Ukraine’s defense.

Putin’s "diplomacy" and goals are predictable: to "deceive" the U.S. President and buy time.

The main question is: will he succeed?

President Trump truly has the power to make this meeting unpredictable.
