Emulation, even as far as nerdy hobbies go, attracts the most deranged and mentally ill, antisocial recluses. It's a bizarre scene. You have to be eccentric to obsess just the correct amount to develop these tools as a fucking passion project.
That said, there's a QT UI for retroarch but it has a fraction of the options available. If they just fleshed that out a bit more it would probably at least help the grognards feel a bit more comfortable with the system.
