I was one of those people doing those very prank calls. The difference isn't that we got less creative, it's that we don't have to be creative anymore. People made pranking them easier because they honestly bent the knee to either forfeiting their privacy or making themselves slaves to services that allow others to prey on them.

They know this and they still engage. It's like bending over and stretching open your asshole and your only cope is "At least I'm not being raped". Prank calls and other vandal like activity usually needed a hook and a lure to turn things on people and onlookers would marvel in the ingenuity of the craft of how you fooled a person. Nobody really appreciates that anymore because you don't need to jump through hoops to get McDicks employees to pull an Ansul alarm or having police officers show up to a Denny's with guns drawn because they thought two black men were having a knife fight in the women's bathroom. The craft isn't dead, just not necessary anymore because society has devolved into such an absolute state that it's all low hanging fruit at this point.

Society is the joke without the windup now.
