I blame a lot of that on Tom King, who entirely gets wrong what makes the Bat-Cat relationship work. It's not this overly emotional, weepy, "you're my north star" bullshit. But it needs to should work on the level of a hardboiled/femme fatale tension mixed with a noir era romantic comedy. Think of Rita Hayworth or Barbara Stanwych in Double Indemnity. All these women had both a flirtiness and a darkness to them that makes their relationship with the hero/detective interesting. Peak Selina is equal parts Ava Gardner and Audrey Hepburn, and her relationship with Batman should reflect that. But Tom King realizes none of that.
