tower of fantasy was so much more than that. it had the mc grow a backbone on their own and tell off the villain group for trying to repeat a cataclysm event to attempt a time retracement time travel, because there is no guarantee it would have the desired effect or that it wouldn't just end everyone in the current timeline, saying commiting atrocities that doesn't justify the means..

it was basically the "star wars" like space drama ngs should have returned to and instead it veered directly into the isekai open world slop ditch. tof basically made the townsfolk actually convincing. I rather have "characters" made with heart even with repeated stock npc looks (something idola did) than tens of npcs populating the city that look like they were shit out from the character creation randomizer.

Everyone in pso2 you interacted with was memorable, they didn't even try with ngs. there's not even any evidence anyone leaves the town other than the class instructors that join you, they only tried at the beginning with aelio town making real characters and then they forgot how to make an open world for the rest of the game.
