The outlet notes that in 2022, when announcing the invasion, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said his goal was to "liberate Donbas," "demilitarize," and "denazify" Ukraine. Currently, the US is pushing the idea for Kyiv to give up part of Donbas in exchange for halting Russia’s southern offensive.
