All depends on the context, but usually I like a slurring or more difficulty speaking. Deeper voice perhaps, since they'll have so much pushing on their vocal chords, too.
I can get behind complete muffled speech if it's something where juice fills the mouth and all they can do is sputter or gurgle.

I think your descriptions for the reasoning for them is great, it should vary based on what the point of the piece is.
