Wrong. I started this year and I skipped the Kisaki event (as in I did all the story stages but didn't read them) because the prologue starts with "previously on Blue Archive". Anyone with half a brain can tell it connects with something else. At the time I was avoiding all guides too because I wanted to experience the game fresh.

I still haven't read it.
