Any country where it's government spends more than 20% of its GDP is economically left wing, there is no reason it needs to do this, outside of world war of course. The US was certainly socially left wing after the 1960s, it was unheard of in history for a society to reject the institution where most people are married and raising a family in their early 20s and encourage racemixing and homosexuality.
>but reagan was right wing by my 2025 overton window shifted standards
>everyone agrees with me
And you are all wrong? I would concede perhaps Reagan secretly yearned for a return to the America he once knew, but in terms of his policies he never challenged the new deal or the 1960s counterculture since the majority of Americans were now boomers and the silent generation that presided over this social change. Reagan could only curb the excess if he intended to get elected.
Reagan represented a critical moment in US history where the effects of the social change became apparent. If there was an economic depression and boomers could not white flight to the suburbs and had to live in the ghetto they would do a 180 real quick. Indeed this was a fear among you leftists back then. However, ironically, Reagan's economic policies worked and boomers became happy yuppies investing in real estate, it is why they now own half the country.
