It was a Galil build which can be a bit more complicated vs standard AKM builds. It was back while he was at Middletown still and I think his work was being spread out amongst shop goblins so it's hard to fault him completely. It was a Galil on an ATI receiver I foolishly bought, that another Smith had already through up his hands on (because apparently SAR gas blocks are a different diameter than ARM barrels) so AKjohn pulled the barrel from the reciever to turn down the gasblock and then just re-indexed it to its previous point without actually checking if the bolt was making contact on both lugs so 200 rounds later after I'm happy with the build despite a sloppy paint refinish (the shop goblins got paint into the folding mechanism and it was coming off with paper towels) the gun starts loosing headspace because it's only headspacing on one Lug.
>I think he literally used it as learning experience for Galils because he mentions Galil bolt issues in one of his videos
So the lesson is just because a dude document's his builds and appears to be a good communicator doesn't mean he actually knows wtf he's doing. To be fair to him I did not attempt rectify the issues and just cut my losses and sold it as a gunsmith special. Another Smith I talked to more familiar with the ATI Galeos thought we could try putting another barrel on it but knowing the SAR gasblock issues I was just done with it at that point. I've even been told on the down-low that a Tortort receiver could be trading into problems by a builder i know is serious about engineering. Galils are a pain the ass to go from Kit to Gun. Best thing to do if you want a classic Galil really is just get a cheap Gallant and check headspace and mag fitment out of the box
