yeah i've wondered that myself, maybe he can just kinda feel when the soul's 'off'? it's something i don't know if toby'll actually answer at some point but it's definitely an important detail considering we seem to be having more of these blank spots where the chapter ends but kris is still running around with the soul in him for a bit
