Catania Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested nine years of imprisonment for three Egyptian men accused of participating in the gang rape of a 13-year-old girl in the public restrooms of Villa Bellini in Catania back in January.

Prosecutor Anna Trinchillo also requested a sentence of five years and four months for a fourth accomplice who cooperated with investigators in identifying the rest of the group.

The prosecutor’s sentencing requests were presented before the Second Criminal Section of the Catania Court on Tuesday.

The rape took place on the evening of Jan. 30, in the Bellini Gardens during the festivities for Saint Agatha, Catania’s patron saint. According to the indictment, the victim, aged 13 at the time, was walking with her 17-year-old boyfriend when they were stopped and surrounded by a group of seven young men. The boyfriend was restrained and beaten to prevent him from intervening, while two of the group — one adult and one minor, both of Egyptian origin — raped the girl inside a public restroom.

Multiple German Christmas markets have been cancelled this year amid concerns over Islamist terror attacks and the rising cost of providing security to attendees.

Merrymakers in the town of Overath in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia will have to look elsewhere for their mulled wine, bratwurst, and roasted nuts this year after organisers announced this week that its annual Christmas market will be cancelled.

In an effective admission that previous terror attacks had succeeded in their aim, the organisers said that they could not afford to enact the necessary security measures to prevent another attack, including hiring additional security officers and cordoning off the market to prevent car attacks.

Carlsbad, New Mexico, homeowner confronted an alleged intruder then shot him dead Thursday night at 5:10 p.m.

KRQE reported the Carlsbad Police Department indicated 46-year-old Michael Brooks Rall allegedly broke into the home Thursday evening.

First Alert 7 noted the homeowner spotted Rall in the house and confronted him. At some point in the confrontation the homeowner shot Rall, killing him.

News reported another alleged intruder–this time in Tulsa, Oklahoma–was shot and killed on Halloween night after reportedly kicking in an apartment door.
