Which countries do you recommend for tourism in Europe?

Japan is surrounded by the sea, so its borders are clear, and that probably helps shape a strong sense of identity. But I’m curious how Europeans form their identities. Especially in countries where speaking multiple languages is the norm—how do people there see themselves?
