Honest answer in what I'm assuming is a bunch of shitposting. India only started to reform its economy from the absolute fucktarded, and I mean fuckTARDED, License Raj system in 1991. This was because the collapse of the Soviet Union rendered it basically untenable as the Soviets heavily subsidized the Indian government to keep that system in place, which was largely adopted purely out of anti-colonial sentiment when India first gained independence. Basically "These Brits really fucked us up, fuck their whole system, capitalist systems included." The problem is that the License Raj system was so bafflingly fucking retardedly ass-backwards that it held India's development pretty much in place throughout the entire Cold War. In 1991 when India -finally- began to reform the country was literally worse off than Africa, that's how fucking developmentally stunted the system was. I'm not going to elaborate on how much it actually functioned because it was labyrinthine bureaucratic fucking nightmare, but I'd encourage anyone interested to do some research on how a system could possible be so fucking bad that war-torn African dictatorships managed to do better.

Anywho, if you compare it to China, which began to liberalize its own economy in 1978, you can see that India typically lags China's own development in increments that either roughly equal that 13 year gap, or lag it slightly as India's growth is still somewhat hampered by bureaucratic fuckery compared to China. Think like a 13 - 20 year lag typically. Now think back to 20 years ago, what good animation was coming out of fucking China in 2005? Not a whole lot, certainly not anything your average poster would have heard of here.

Basically India is poor as shit, was fucking POOR and SHIT until the last decade, and probably won't be in the position to produce good animation for another decade or two at best.
