The Germans were certainly more humane about killing than they're given credit for, compared to MANY genocides. Most of the bigger war crimes were carried out by Ukrainians and Slavs allied with the Reich, who were using the opportunity to settle their own grudges. Wasnt Derwingler (or whatever) a Slav? Either way, he was executed by the NSDAP. The Germans weren't acting anything like, for example, the Israelis do... or the Soviets, for that matter.
