I don't think this is a good response to why Blood Elves joining the Horde is dumb. It makes sense that Blood Elves controlled Quel'thalas and it makes sense they'd join the Horde after being kicked out by the Alliance and after Silvanus invited them to the Horde. Kind of makes sense. They could have remained as just bad guys too. But they weren't exactly monsters, and again, they're surrounded by the Scourge, they need help.

And I don't know what you mean by retcon the Quel'thalas peninsula, what do you mean exactly. Like many areas Blizzard originally planned to create that area, they show it on the game manual map, but they didn't finish it until TBC, it didn't exist in the game until then. In fact it technically didn't exist even after TBC because they didn't change the original game map they just added an instance to go to a separate location where they built Quel'thalas so that people who didn't buy the expansion couldn't go there.
