korea has been the only country i had problems with payments from my card (mastercard, from monzo bank in the uk...). i set up samsung pay on my phone which is no more extensive than setting up google wallet and it still got declined from time to time. useless.
i couldn't really figure anything out because many people dont seem to have any problems so i wasn't too sure, you should probably carry some cash but most of the ATMs have excessive fees so dont do many withdrawals
