I think it's mostly due to different takes on the same fundamental genre. Esoterrorists is pure 90's grunge and edge (Organ Grinders, Blossomers, Snuff Golems, Feral Drowners, Sisterites, etc) with all the gross-out or really uncomfortable horror you'd expect from that, whilst Ordem is a lot more varied in the types of horror it draws its influence from - mostly because unlike the Outer Dark, the Other Side and the Elements have more distinct ranges on what sort of shit they manifest. It has dipped its toes into that sort of stuff occasionally though, like with the Merge.
