Mr. X is the only one of the stalkers that worked because he was basically a pseudo-ink ribbon system. You had to plan your trips through the RPD because the second you started making noise like firing gun he would bear down on you quick and you'd have to plan around whatever monsters were still lingering; and this wasn't like RE2 on the PS1 where they were pretty liberal with giving you enough ammo to kill everything. Ammunition was scarce and you had to pick your battles and decide what was worth killing and what was worth just kneecapping to get out of the way.
RE7 was tolerable because it was basically a recalibration for Resident Evil after RE6, if more of an over-correction compared to Revelations 1/2, and if it just had to copy trendy horror games of the 2010s like Outlast then that's what they had to do.

Now it's just shitty diet stealth segments where you hide in a corner for the designated amount of time until it's time to move on, or run(and with how absolutely glacial RE7/RE8's movement is it's embarrassing).
RE4 at least gave super spy Leon stealth executions to thin out the horde before going loud.
