In my country at least, considering more people get less poor over time (in general), they got more disposable income to spend on mental health care.
Add the high rate of college attendance, there is probably a higher chance more research will be done too.
I fully expect the rate of diagnosed children to go up in the future and a bunch of people start asking questions why there are more autists, when they were kinda there all along.
Still, I really do think the likelihood of being diagnosed as a child is a lot higher if the child is retarded.
Also I think its unironically for the best if only retards are diagnosed with autism. The welfare system is already a huge fucking burden to society.
