The assorted tanks with entrenching tools can access a lot of those strong positions, but not when actively under fire. If you're camping a sight line in advance or the opponent's attention is blatantly elsewhere, then you can spend ~6 seconds or so digging a shallow shelf into the side of the hill so that you can get like ~20+ degrees of extra gun depression.
As a whole though, I agree. Most people bitching about many of the russian tanks across the tree are the sort that haven't learned that armor is the least dependable advantage that you can possibly have and that no-armor is best armor. For example, noobs will bitch about the T-55AM1 and its meme composite cheeks because their shell bounced one time or maybe they're still stuck using stock HEAT, but pros realize that the despite its glass jaw the Turm III is the real cancerwagon.
